Gary Lineker reacts as Everton confirm signing of James Rodriguez on Monday

Everton finally confirmed the signing of Colombian superstar James Rodriguez on Monday afternoon.

The 29-year-old has arrived at Goodison Park for £22million from Real Madrid, putting pen-to-paper on a two-year-deal in Merseyside.

Rodriguez has the option for another year on his new deal and was convinced to join by his former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The Toffees are going through their first transfer window with Ancelotti in charge, and the Italian has clearly identified his midfield to strengthen.

Rodriguez followed Allan into the club, with Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure also expected to complete his move relatively soon.

Gary Lineker has reacted to the signing, and he couldn’t help but delivered a cheeky response on his personal Twitter account.

“A World Cup golden boot winner at Everton,” he wrote. “Been a while since that happened.”

Ancelotti was clearly a driving force behind this move for Rodriguez, as it was the Italian who gave him his chance at Real Madrid.

The Colombian superstar made a name for himself at the 2014 World Cup where he won that Golden Boot, scoring six goals in his five outings there.

Everyone remembers that glorious volley he somehow stuck into the top corner against Uruguay, and that is exactly what every single Everton fan will be hoping he can deliver in the Premier League.

In his first year with Ancelotti at Madrid, the playmaker scored 13 goals and delivered the same number of assists – crazy numbers that the Italian clearly helped with.

Lineker looked happy with the news, but he would feel even better if he was to deliver those sort of numbers in his first season in England.
