Everton enter talks with England international following injury blow – report

Everton are close to agreeing a deal to sign Chelsea centre back Fikayo Tomori on a season-long loan, according to Sky Sports.

Tomori was close to joining Rennes, but Everton have turned their attention to the England defender after they failed in their pursuit of Gabriel Magalhaes, who elected to join Arsenal.

On the Sky Sports Good Morning Transfers show, it was revealed that Everton are ‘in talks’ to bring Tomori to Goodison Park.

On Good Morning Transfers (Wednesday 9th September 10 am), it was suggested that the recent injury to Mason Holgate has switched Carlo Ancelotti’s transfer attention to the defence, following the recent additions of Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Following Chelsea’s capture of Thiago Silva, the Blues now have an abundance of centre backs, meaning Tomori isn’t guaranteed game time.

Tomori impressed for Chelsea in the early stages of last season, continuing his development that started under Frank Lampard at Derby County, where he was on loan during the 2018/19 season.

His performances saw him get his first England call-up last October, but as the season progressed Tomori was dropped to the bench.

In December he signed a new five year deal at Stamford Bridge but saw his opportunities limited after that. He didn’t play a minute for Chelsea after the resumption of the Premier League in June.

Should Tomori sign for the Toffees, he will have to compete with Yerry Mina, Holgate and fellow international Michael Keane. Tomori will have to fight for his place but the most attractive aspect of a move to Everton must be the chance to work with Ancelotti.

Tomori has developed under two seasons of Lampard’s management. But Ancelotti will be able to help Tomori realise his full potential, and this move should help Tomori evolve into a future star for Chelsea and England
