‘I was willing to give up a lot’ – Everton player takes to Twitter after transfer deal collapse

Everton winger Yannick Bolasie has taken to social media to state his disappointment that he was unable to sign for Middlesbrough before the closure of the transfer window.

The former Congolese international was lined up for a reunion with former boss Neil Warnock at Middlesbrough, but the deal to take Bolasie to the Riverside was never signed off.

The winger took to Twitter to voice his frustration and claimed he was ‘willing to give up a lot’ to make the move happen but added that he would focus on his Everton career and will be ready if he is called upon.

Bolasie hasn’t made a first-team appearance for the Toffees since May 2018, when his side lost 3-1 away at West Ham. A loan move to Middlesbrough would’ve been a fresh start for the winger and he was obviously disappointed that it never transpired.

Since his last Everton appearance there have been loan moves to Aston Villa, Anderlecht and Sporting Lisbon, but none of those sides have tried to sign the 31-year-old on a permanent basis.

Bolasie’s time at Goodison Park has been severely hampered by injury. Not long after he joined the club in 2016 he sustained an injury to his right anterior cruciate ligament which kept him out of action for just over a year.

Following this major injury, the winger never had another chance at establishing himself as a first-team player and was continuously loaned out as he was surplus to requirements at Goodison Park.

He was a popular player at Everton, and Crystal Palace before that, due to his skills and tricks that he would regularly use to bamboozle Premier League defenders. It remains to be seen what will happen to Bolasie now he is stuck at a club where he is unlikely to play. Though his contract is due to expire next summer, so he probably won’t be an Everton player for much longer.
