View: Klopp must stop the anti-Pickford agenda after a month of Everton criticism

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has aimed yet another dig at Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his tackle on Virgil van Dijk earlier this season.

The Dutch defender will miss a large portion of the season after Pickford’s mistimed tackle during last month’s Merseyside derby.

Since then, Liverpool have suffered injuries to Fabinho and Joe Gomez which leaves Klopp with a severely depleted defence.

On Friday, Klopp spoke out about his injury woes and fired another dig at Pickford almost a month after the incident occurred.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Klopp said, “With the Virgil van Dijk situation, it was not because of the intensity of the game. It was because of a very strange decision by one person [Jordan Pickford] which made it hard to deal with.”

This needs to stop.

Pickford should have been sent off in the game but he wasn’t. That isn’t the England keeper’s fault.

He made a mistake, a mistake that has caused a bad injury but there was no intent from Pickford and this anti-Pickford agenda coming from the players and staff at Liverpool has to come to an end.

Klopp is behaving like none of his players have ever caused an opposition player an injury.

These frankly pathetic quotes from the Liverpool boss make him look like a spoiled child who hasn’t been given what he wants for Christmas.

He has one of the best squads in world football and arguably one of the world’s best youth set-ups providing him with young, first-team ready replacements for his superstars.

No one at Everton is paying van Dijk’s injury any thought and neither should Klopp. It’s over, van Dijk is on the road to recovery and the world has moved on.

His recent comments make it seem like Klopp is more interested in bringing down Pickford than he is in sorting his own team’s form out.

If he spent more time on the training ground instead of having a go at Pickford in the media then maybe his side would be top of the table rather than third.
