‘Finding their feet’ – Exclusive: Kevin Campbell claims Everton are lacking ‘magic’
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell believes Everton are still ‘finding their feet’ in the league this season and suggested that some players need to ‘step up’ to turn the Toffees’ form around.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have only won one of their last six Premier League games and failed to beat relegation-threatened Burnley last weekend.
Campbell has suggested that some of Everton’s summer signings are still getting used to the Premier League and claimed that the Toffees are just lacking ‘that one bit of magic’.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “It’s not necessarily that things have gone wrong, you’ve also got to look at the three games they lost when Richarlison was suspended.
“I just think Everton are finding their feet after a really good start, everything has to settle down. You go through a good patch, you go through a tough patch and now everything’s a bit normal at the moment.
“A couple of the big-name players maybe have to step up, Rodriguez, Richarlison. A bit of magic, that’s all you’re looking for, that one bit of magic that wins you the game.
“They just haven’t been able to do that at the present time but it will come. This is the Premier League, where every game is tough so a lot of these players who have played elsewhere, Rodriguez, Allan, they’re finding out about the Premier League now.”
Everton face two tricky games in the Premier League as they look to get their season back on track.
First, they face high flying Chelsea at Goodison Park before travelling to the King Power Stadium to face a Leicester side who are again challenging for a top-four spot.
Two losses in these games would be disastrous for Everton after they were proposed as top-four contenders themselves following their incredible start to the season.
With the Toffees in ninth and only four points off the top four, they could be in a much worse position but they need to get more wins on the board before the usual suspects start to pull away at the top of the table.
Campbell is correct in saying that Rodriguez and Allan haven’t been at their best in recent weeks so a marked improvement from the summer signings against Chelsea would go some way towards turning Everton’s season around.
In other Everton news, the Toffees could welcome back Jean-Philippe Gbamin this week.
