‘They know my situation’ – Khedira details Everton contact ahead of January window

Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira has explained that he has been in contact with Everton as he eyes a move away from Turin in January.

Khedira could be allowed to leave the Italian champions in January as he is yet to feature for the club this season.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, the World Cup winner claimed that he has recently been in touch with Everton and Tottenham.

He said, “These [Everton and Spurs] are just two of the many interesting clubs. I’ve always kept in touch with both of them, even in the last few weeks. We phoned and wrote. They know my situation.

“But it could end up being a completely different club. Even outside of England. If someone convinces me with their concept, it could also become a club that you don’t even have in mind.

“I am open to a new sporting challenge. I’ve had a hard time and want to play football again, fighting for three points week after week. That’s what I long for. If that’s at a club other than Juve, I have no problem with that.”

We have already looked at why Khedira may not be an ideal signing for Carlo Ancelotti based on how the midfielder performed last season.

We also believe that Khedira wouldn’t provide a significant upgrade on the midfield options that Everton currently have.

Summer signings Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan have been solid since they joined the club and there is already plenty of midfield back up in Gylfi Sigurdsson, Tom Davies and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, when the latter is finally available of course.

Sigurdsson was magnificent against Chelsea in the Toffees’ most recent outing as he captained the side and scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win.

If he can get back to his best then Ancelotti may not see a need to sign a new central midfielder and these rumours about Khedira may be forgotten.

In other Everton new, Allan shone against for the Toffees in Saturday’s win over Chelsea.
