‘Solid’, ‘Outstanding’ – Everton Super Fans name MOTM after win v Arsenal

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Everton Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Goodison Park.

Everton moved up to second place in the Premier League with a superb 2-1 win against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Saturday night.

Rob Holding’s own-goal and Yerry Mina’s second-half effort header the Blues all three points and prove that Carlo Ancelotti has managed to get the team’s form back on tracks after a rocky few weeks.

Everton have been hit with a number of injury issues in recent weeks with Lucas Digne, Seamus Coleman, Fabian Delph and James Rodriguez all missing matches.

Digne’s absence left a void in the left-back role but Ben Godfrey has been playing there in recent weeks and definitely saved his best full-back display for the win over Arsenal.

After the win, we asked our panel of Everton Super Fans to name their man of the match from the game and all of them went for the ex-Norwich centre-back.

Godfrey was outstanding and it’s no shock at all that he was named by every single Super Fan.

According to stats by Wyscout, the 22-year-old won four of his seven defensive duels against Arsenal while also completing six interceptions, 12 recoveries and five clearances.

Although Nicolas Pepe scored from the penalty spot on Saturday, the Gunners winger was kept quiet for large periods of the game due to Godfrey’s impressive defending.

Everton’s stand-in left-back also found a team-mate with the one and only cross he attempted as well as completing his one attempted dribble and making three progressive runs.

One of the Super Fans claimed Godfrey was “making runs like a prime Leighton Baines”. Based on those stats, it’s hard to disagree.
