View: 14% crossing accuracy – Iwobi fails to impress again for Everton v Arsenal

Alex Iwobi failed to impress again as Everton recorded a third successive win against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

The winger has had plenty of opportunities to impress this season but he has failed to do so in a number of positions.

Iwobi has been filling in for the injured James Rodriguez and he has had the chance to stake a claim as a starting player at Goodison Park.

However, his performance against Arsenal won’t have convinced Carlo Ancelotti that he is worth a starting place over Rodriguez or Richarlison.

The stats also back up the claim that Iwobi had a poor afternoon against the Gunners.

According to Wyscout, Iwobi registered a crossing accuracy of just 14% against Arsenal which is simply appalling for a Premier League winger.

Just one of Iwobi’s seven crosses found one of his teammates as he completely failed to deliver in what is a key area for a winger.

After being deployed as a wing-back this season, you would think that Iwobi would want to prove that he has the attributes to play as a winger for Everton.

If a winger is unable to complete successful crosses then they are not an asset to their side, however, it wasn’t just his crossing that let Iwobi down this weekend.

The 24-year-old failed to register a shot on target while only managing to have a touch of the ball in the penalty area on one occasion.

This simply isn’t a good enough attacking output from Iwobi and he is proving that he isn’t worthy back up for Rodriguez and Richarlison.

When Everton came under pressure in the closing stages of the game Iwobi also failed to help his side out as he won none of his attempted defensive duels.

Overall, just 56% of Iwobi’s actions against the Gunners were successful which means that just under half of anything the winger attempted ended in failure.

Iwobi needs to drastically improve if he is to have a successful Everton career as at the moment, he would not be a huge miss if he was sold.
