Gary Neville shares verdict on Everton success and need for silverware

Gary Neville believes that Everton will finally kick on and start to achieve better things in 2021 after their impressive start to the season.

The Toffees currently find themselves in the top four after winning three games in a row in the Premier League.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Neville claimed that Everton need to win a trophy and pinpointed the Toffees’ key players.

He said, “Every single season for the last 10 I’ve been working for Sky I’ve thought ‘is this the season where Everton can really step up and challenge and do better and start to threaten?’

“It feels like this season is the season where they are going to achieve what they should be achieving, as it feels like they have been underachieving for a few years.

“It’s a big game for them on Wednesday evening [against Manchester United]. Everton need to win a trophy. They’re doing well, they have a style of play and good forwards, Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are a real threat.”

The Toffees have shown a vast improvement this season under Carlo Ancelotti and some of that is down to the club’s brilliant transfer business.

James Rodriguez, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ben Godfrey have all hit the ground running since moving to Goodison Park in the summer.

There is no doubting the positive impact these players have had on the squad at Everton and because the Toffees didn’t let many players go last summer, there is plenty of strength and depth at the club.

The Toffees have a chance to end their silverware hoodoo as they will take on Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup this week.

A trophy win would cement Ancelotti as an Everton legend despite his short time at the club and he has an excellent chance of doing that this season and achieving some of the success that Neville mentioned.
