Exclusive – Kevin Campbell predicts ‘really important’ Everton clash v Man United
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell believes that Everton will reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup as they prepare to take on Manchester United.
The Red Devils will travel to Goodison Park on Wednesday for their quarter-final clash against the Toffees and Campbell believes his former side will win 2-1.
Campbell has also talked up Everton’s chances of winning the competition and hailed the opportunity that the Toffees have to win silverware.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I think it’s important that this Everton team now are looking to challenge for silverware. That’s really important for the football club and it’s a great stepping stone.
“I know in the past they’ve played weaker teams in this competition but they’ve been taking it seriously this season as they should. There are only so many opportunities that Everton will get to win trophies.
“There’s only so many opportunities to get to this stage, the quarter-final stage of competitions where you feel that you have a chance.
“The way Everton are as a team now, they have a chance. United have a good record at Goodison but I’ll go 2-1 Everton.”
The Toffees beat West Ham to get to this stage of the competition after dispatching Salford City and Northampton Town in the earlier stages.
Manchester City will be favourites to win the Carabao Cup again this season after picking it up for a third year in a row earlier this year.
The Citizens are still in the competition and could draw the Toffees if both clubs win their respective games against Arsenal and Manchester United.
Carlo Ancelotti will write his name into the Everton history books if he can bring silverware back to Goodison Park as Toffees fans hope that he names a strong starting 11 to take on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Fans won’t be hoping for a repeat of the result that the Toffees picked up in the Premier League version of this fixture earlier this season as United won 3-1 at Goodison.
A win on Wednesday will secure that semi-final spot and it will be another scalp for the club to claim following recent wins against Arsenal and Chelsea.
In other Everton news, Campbell isn’t concerned about the club’s recent financial losses.
