Exclusive: Campbell claims Everton need to target ‘match-winners’ this January

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Everton should add a new midfielder and striker to their ranks during the January transfer window.

We are yet to see any transfer movement at Goodison Park as we enter the second week of what could prove to be a quiet month.

Campbell believes that Everton have issues they can fix with some new recruits this window while admitting that the Toffees need more match-winners in the side.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I’m still not convinced by Everton in the wide areas. If Richarlison isn’t performing it’s very difficult to see match-winners.

“If you want players who are really going to make a difference then you need to add to that squad.

“Maybe another central midfielder who can create and be box to box as well. You can never have enough quality players.

“Maybe another striker because at times I think Everton can go four four two which might suit them.”

The Toffees could have money to spend this month if they decide to sell Moise Kean to PSG as Sky Sports report that the French champions would be willing to pay £31 million for his services.

This would give the club a chance to sign some ‘match-winners’ as Carlo Ancelotti’s side can look short of ideas in some games.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is Everton’s top scorer this season with 14 goals in all competitions, the player next in the list is Richarlison who has 5.

This is some drop-off and yes, Calvert-Lewin has been exceptional, but these stats suggest that there is a serious lack of goals in the team without the 23-year-old.

Luckily, Calvert-Lewin is yet to pick up an injury or miss a run of games this season so he is always available.

Another striker needs to be recruited this month on the off-chance Calvert-Lewin is ruled out for a significant amount of time.

If a new striker doesn’t arrive at Goodison, there is a real danger that one injury blow could derail Everton’s season.
