‘This could be tight’ – Michael Owen predicts Everton clash v Wolves outcome
Michael Owen has backed a low-scoring draw between Everton and Wolves on Tuesday evening despite the four league game winless run of the hosts.
Everton head into the contest on the back of a loss in their last Premier League game to West Ham at Goodison Park but they have still won four of their last five league games.
Wolves, meanwhile, have won just once in their last seven league games and are struggling in the absence of star striker Raul Jimenez after the injury he sustained in their 2-1 win over Arsenal on November 29.
Despite the poor run of form Wolves are on former Liverpool striker Owen has predicted the sides to share the spoils at Molineux, telling BetVictor: “I think this could be tight.
“Neither are scoring a tremendous amount of goals just now, so I’ll be siding with a low scoring draw at Molineux.”
Owen predicted a 1-1 draw in a game that pits the seventh-placed Toffees up against Nuno Espirito Santo’s outfit who sit seven points below them in 13th.
Owen’s prediction of a low-scoring match looks like a realistic prospect with Carlo Ancelotti’s side struggling for goals at the moment, and they will not be helped by some troubling injury news.
They have not scored more than twice in a game since November 22 and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has not bagged since a 1-1 draw at Burnley onDecember 5.
While he is failing to maintain his fantastic goal scoring start to the season the news that he will miss the Wolves clash with a hamstring injury is sure to be a big loss for the Toffees, particularly with fellow forward Richarlison also a doubt.
With their key attacking duo potentially both missing it is hard to see where the goals will come from for Everton.
James Rodriguez is their second highest scorer in the Premier League with three goals but he has only recently returned to injury and is more relied upon as a creator of goals.
No other player has scored more than twice and it might fall upon the shoulders of Everton outcast Cenk Tosun to attempt to add a goalscoring touch to proceedings, but he has only scored two Premier League goals since the start of last season including a spell at Crystal Palace.
