‘He was excellent’ – Exclusive: Campbell hails Iwobi’s impact on Everton’s Wolves win
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell believes that Alex Iwobi is finally starting to find his feet at Everton following his goal against Wolves on Tuesday night.
Iwobi started and finished the attacking move that opened the scoring in the 2-1 win at Molineux.
Campbell was full of praise for the winger and hailed his improvement after the Nigerian had a tough start to life at Goodison Park.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “He was excellent. I think we’re starting to see him play a bit more consistently under Ancelotti.
“Earlier on in the season, he was a bit up and down but now he’s starting to find his feet. I thought he was excellent last night.
“Very good goal, played excellently, showed great energy right up until the end and I think he was a major plus last night for sure.”
Iwobi was an attacking force against Wolves and some key stats show just how good he was compared to his own form this season.
According to Wyscout, Iwobi has been successful with 61.4% of his dribbles this season but on Tuesday night he completed 75% of his dribbles.
He also registered five touches of the ball inside the opposition penalty area which is more than double the rate of 2.32 touches in the opposition penalty area which he has been averaging per 90 minutes this season.
The Nigerian was getting forward much more and this improved his performance as he picked up his first Premier League goal for over a year.
Hopefully, this is the Iwobi we see from now on.
It would help to take the pressure off James Rodriguez and Richarlison while adding more strength to the Toffees attack.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured, we need all the attacking help that we can get.
