Everton confirm Branthwaite loan switch to Blackburn

Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite has joined Blackburn Rovers on loan, the Blues have confirmed.

In an announcement on their official website on Thursday night, Everton confirm that the 18-year-old will spend the rest of the season with the Championship club, who are managed by Tony Mowbray.

Branthwaite is one of the more promising young players on the books at Goodison Park with him earning five first-team appearances since joining from Carlisle just over 12 months ago.

Time to shine for Toffees talent

Branthwaite hasn’t simply made five senior appearances for Everton because of injuries or suspensions. He’s made those appearances because he deserves them.

He played four times in the Premier League at the back-end of last season and started the Carabao Cup win over Salford before being forced off with an injury this term.

After playing 74 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in July, Carlo Ancelotti told Everton’s official website: “I am really happy with him, he is really young, a kid.

“But he showed quality and personality and character.

“He is really calm with the ball, really comfortable, and really aggressive without the ball.

“He can be a fantastic player for us.”

Blackburn and their fans will now be hoping that Branthwaite can prove Ancelotti was right in his performances on loan at Ewood Park for the rest of this season.

No team has scored more goals than Rovers in the Championship this term [38]. However, Mowbray’s side isn’t the best defensively, conceding the 10th highest-number of goals in the second-tier [27].

According to stats by Wyscout, Blackburn have conceded 245 shots this season, which is the sixth-highest in the Championship.

Rovers have also been involved in the second-lowest number of aerial duels [971] so you would imagine that 6ft 4 [transfermarkt] Branthwaite would help them in that department.

We wish the youngster all the best while on loan at Ewood Park.

It could be the making of a very, very good career for the up-and-coming defender.

In other Everton news, the Blues have been linked with Bournemouth forward Joshua King.
