View: 72/73 passes completed – Mina was almost perfect in Everton v Wolves
Michael Keane may have grabbed the headlines with his late header against Wolves but his Everton teammate Yerry Mina was also impressive.
Mina and Keane started in the heart of the Blues defence at Molineux as goals from the Englishman and Alex Iwobi secured three valuable points.
The defence was key in the impressive win as they kept a talented Wolves attack quiet for the most part even as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side turned up the pressure late on.
At the back, Mina was a rock as the stats show just how good of a game the Colombian had against Wolves.
According to Wyscout, Mina won 80% of his aerial duels as the home side were unable to find much joy from their set pieces and long balls.
Mina also won 100% of his loose ball duels as he made sure that loose balls didn’t end up in the hands of the opposition.
Overall, the defender won 70% of his total defensive duels which is better than his average for the season with Mina usually winning 66.7% of his defensive duels per 90 minutes.
The Toffees defender also made six recoveries and five clearances as he played a major role in cutting out Wolves’ attacks.
Mina has been averaging 2.26 clearances per 90 minutes this season which shows how much extra pressure he came under at Molineux.
Even more impressively, he managed to do all of this without fouling anyone which is very impressive considering that Mina can be hot-headed when it comes to tackles.
Against Wolves, Mina’s passing was almost perfect.
According to Wyscout, the defender registered a 99% passing accuracy with Mina only misplacing one of the 73 passes he attempted.
With Carlo Ancelotti’s insistence on having ball-playing defenders, this aspect of Mina’s game is sure to have impressed his boss.
Mina also picked up a passing accuracy of 86% when it came to his passes into the final third.
This suggests that his long balls forward were finding their intended targets instead of being wasted, this will have also impressed The Professor.
Overall, 92% of Mina’s attempted actions against Wolves were successful which means he barely put a foot wrong.
Mina’s good performance has gone under the radar thanks to Keane’s late show but the Colombian is slowly and quietly going about improving his game after failing to impress earlier in the season.
