Tosun’s agent met with Sam Allardyce as Everton exit speculation swirls

West Brom manager Sam Allardyce is still chasing the signing of Everton striker Cenk Tosun, according to the 29-year-old’s agent Mesrun Izzet.

Tosun has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park [Sky Sports] for a long while now with the Turkey international clearly out of favour, making just five Premier League appearances comprising of a measly 44 minutes (WhoScored).

A recent injury to star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has thrown this into doubt with no other senior strikers at the club but Carlo Ancelotti revealed his main man is back in action for the FA Cup clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

As detailed in Turkish outlet Fanatik Izzet claimed to have recently spoken to Allardyce about Tosun, saying: “I met with Sam Allardyce, the manager of West Brom four days ago.

“His first choice is Cenk Tosun, since he is his former student … Moreover, he does not have any adaptation problems to England because he has been there for a long time.”

Tosun might have another chance to impress Ancelotti on Sunday if he chooses to rotate his side ahead of a crucial Premier League clash with Leicester City on Wednesday.

Risky move without back-up

Calvert-Lewin only ended up missing two games for Everton but this short setback will have been enough to plant doubt into the minds of Blues supporters about their plight without him.

Tosun was selected to lead the line in the FA Cup against Championship strugglers Rotherham United and scored but Ancelotti left him out against Wolves three days later, opting instead to play James Rodriguez and Gylfi Sigurdsson as advanced midfielders rather than a recognised centre forward.

This showed Ancelotti’s complete lack of faith in Tosun and surely signalled the end of his Everton career.

However, there are less than two weeks remaining in the January transfer window and the Blues are yet to sign a striker so shipping Tosun out might prove to be a big gamble.

Granted, Richarlison is now fit after his brief injury issue and can cover for Calvert-Lewin up front but that would take away a big threat from Everton’s left hand side with options behind him also rather limited.

It might just be worth Ancelotti’s while holding onto Tosun for another six months to act as emergency cover before his Goodison Park nightmare is finally over.
