Everton handed blow with Zirkzee ‘one step away’ from signing for Parma – report

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee is ‘one step away’ from signing for Parma over Everton.

Earlier this week, Sky Sports reported that Everton and Parma were the two clubs who could potentially sign the young forward with the German giants set to make a decision on Zirkzee’s future.

On Thursday, Romano delivered a major blow for the Blues as he claimed that Parma are ‘one step away’ from signing Zirkzee from Bayern on loan with the option to make the move permanent.

On the Everton front, Romano added that the Blues had not sent in another bid in an effort to lure Zirkzee to Goodison Park at the last minute.

This could be a significant blow to Everton’s plans for the rest of the season because, as it stands, there is no other immediate target to bring in to boost Carlo Ancelotti’s attacking options.

We need another striker, it’s that simple as Cenk Tosun is frankly not good enough to get us over the line this season if Dominic Calvert-Lewin picks up a major injury.

That’s not to say that Zirkzee is capable of scoring the goals to secure us a top-four finish but at this point we would take a highly rated youngster over Tosun.

The Turkish international has proved time and time again that he can’t score goals regularly and that is what we need.

This blow for the Blues could mean that there is some late transfer activity at Goodison Park.

It would be unlikely that after coming close to signing a new forward, we would give up and sign no one with a few days left of the transfer window.

Hopefully, the club are currently looking at alternative options as Zirkzee looks almost certain to join Parma in the near future.

No one likes deadline day nerves but that is what it may take to finally bring in a suitable DCL back up.
