Tosun braced for Everton exit after giving Besiktas loan blessing – report
Everton striker Cenk Tosun has expressed his desire to return to Turkish giants Besiktas and has met with club officials, according to Turkish outlet NTV Sports.
The Turkey international is out-of-favour at Goodison Park and his chances of first-team football this season look bleak if he stays on Merseyside.
He has been linked to a number of clubs including CSKA Moscow but appears to have given a nod to former club Besiktas.
In an interview with Turkish TV channel NTV Sports, who report that he has met with Besiktas management, Tosun revealed he is ready to return to the club he spent four successful years at between 2014-18, saying: “If Everton and Beşiktaş have an agreement, I am ready to wear the black and white jersey again.
“I would like to contribute to Beşiktaş until the end of the season. If Everton approves the transfer, it will not be a problem for me.”
Tosun last played for the Blues on January 9 when he started and scored in their 2-1 extra-time victory over Rotherham United in the FA Cup third-round.
Is this finally goodbye?
Tosun has endured a frustrating spell at Goodison Park since former Blues boss Sam Allardyce signed him from Besiktas in January 2018.
He hit five goals in 14 Premier League appearances in the second half of the season but that was as good as it got for the 29-year-old.
Since the start of 2018/19 Tosun has scored just four goals in 34 Premier League outings while he also had an unsuccessful spell at Crystal Palace last season.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin firmly established as number one striker opportunities have been scarce for Tosun during the current campaign and Carlo Ancelotti even chose to field no strikers against Wolves on January 12 when he was without the services of the England international, such is his lack of faith in the latter.
His Everton contract runs until 2022 [Transfermarkt] but the club would be advised to ship him out immediately, even if it is on a temporary deal, in order to drive up interest in the summer with his value continuing to decrease every minute he spends on the bench or in the reserves.
