‘The right move’ – Exclusive: Campbell delivers verdict on Tosun’s Everton exit
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell believes Cenk Tosun leaving Everton would be the best move for all parties as deadline day draws near.
Sky Sports are reporting that Tosun will travel to Turkey on Sunday to finalise a loan move to former club Besiktas.
This leaves the Blues short on the striker front with just Dominic Calvert-Lewin left as the only out and out forward in the first team, though Campbell has played down the potential risk in letting Tosun leave.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “It’s not really a risk.
“You can always play Richarlison up there. I think Richarlison gives you more than Cenk Tosun.
“That’s one that Carlo Ancelotti knows that he’s got up his sleeve. So I don’t think it’s a risk.
“I think they have to be realistic. Tosun can deputise but he doesn’t have the same attributes as Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison.
“It’s the right move for those concerned.”
If push came to shove then Richarlison could play up front as a lone striker but his goalscoring exploits haven’t been as impressive as hoped this season.
The Brazilian only has two Premier League goals this year and he will have to seriously pick up the pace if he is to match his haul of 13 from last season.
Richarlison has missed games through injury and suspension this season but he has missed a lot of chances when he’s played and with only three assists he is not contributing too much there either.
Maybe goals would be easier to come by if Richarlison was played up front on his own but we’re hoping that DCL can stay fit so this particular conversation always stays hypothetical.
With Tosun leaving, many Evertonians will be hoping that a new striker arrives at Goodison Park on deadline day.
After leaving it late, there is a good chance that this will not happen.
In other Everton news, we believe Jordan Pickford must be dropped for his error against Newcastle.
