Everton battling Manchester United in race for wantaway 17y/o – report

Everton are chasing the signature of Celtic goalkeeper Vincent Angelini but face competition from the likes of Manchester United, according to tuttomercatoweb.

Angelini is 17-years-old and has yet to play for the senior Celtic team but with his contract expiring is said to be interesting a number of European clubs, including the Blues.

The club have a strong youth set-up and Angelini could be another future star to add to their roster if reports of a number of European heavyweights being interested are anything to go by.

Italian outlet tuttomercatoweb report that Everton have made contact to understand the feasibility of a deal while Premier League rivals Manchester United and Southampton are also in the hunt, alongside Italian giants like AC Milan and Lazio.

With his contract expiring in the summer he would represent a cheap deal for clubs interested in his services.

Angelini is a Scottish citizen but has an Italian passport through his father and tuttomercatoweb report that he is open to the possibility of moving abroad with Celtic contract negotiations not progressing.

One to watch…

This would represent a move for the future and is not something that will have any great effect on the Everton first-team but it will be interesting to see whether director of football Marcel Brands can exert his influence to beat a host of other elite European clubs to the signature of Angelini.

The long-term prospects of Everton’s current incumbent in goal, Jordan Pickford, do not look rosy after his recent mistake against Leicester City added to the collection of errors he has made at Goodison Park since his 2017 arrival from Sunderland.

Robin Olsen has been the number two this season but is still only on a loan deal and is 31-years-old.

The Blues also have the likes of 21-year-old Joao Virginia and 19-year-old Nicholas Defreitas-Hansen on their books in the goalkeeping department as more youthful options for the future.

Virginia is the more established of the two having made two appearances for Reading in the Championship last season but it looks like the club are after more young talent to compete and show their worth.
