View: Momentous FA Cup win v Spurs can pave the way for glory days to return to Everton

Everton are one of the oldest and proudest clubs in England but it has been way too long since we’ve seen major silverware added to the collection at Goodison Park.

In the next few years, we’ll see the Blues move away from their age-old home at Stanley Park to Bramley-Moore Dock as a new chapter in our club’s long history starts.

But wouldn’t it be an amazing and fitting tribute to Goodison to win an FA Cup before that move takes place?

On Wednesday night, we witnessed a momentous victory that could be big enough to spark an incredible cup run for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Bernard’s extra-time goal secured a 5-4 win for the Toffees against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham, a manager and team who aren’t known for conceding too many goals.

It was one of the best matches we’ve seen at Goodison Park in recent years but for all the excitement and buzz of the win, there’s a lingering bittersweet feeling as no fan was there to see it in person.

Still, there’s not much we can do about that and hopefully, by the time the FA Cup reaches its conclusion on May 15, some fans might be able to attend the final at Wembley.

But for now, you cannot help but get the feeling something special is happening with this Everton side.

Ancelotti has them performing well in the Premier League and after beating Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday and Spurs – all at Goodison – the quarter-finals await.

So far, Bournemouth, Manchester United, Manchester City, Leicester and Sheffield United have all made the last eight while the last two spaces are up for grabs on Thursday night when Wolves host Southampton and Barnsley welcome Chelsea to Oakwell.

There are some tough teams the Blues might face in the next round but the old adage says that you have to beat the best in order to be the best.

Ancelotti’s men have already beaten Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday and Spurs. While two of those games you’d expect us to win, that 5-4 was just such an unforgettable occasion that something special has to follow it.

Let’s see what the draw holds for us but whoever we face, you just know that Ancelotti and his players will be up for the task.
