‘Not short of firepower’ – Mark Lawrenson predicts winner of Everton v Fulham
Mark Lawrenson has predicted Everton will beat Fulham in the Premier League clash on Sunday at Goodison Park.
The Toffees won a 5-4 FA Cup thriller in the week at home to Tottenham and will be looking to build on that momentum in their European football charge.
Whilst giving his weekly predictions for the BBC, Lawrenson stated that Carlo Ancelotti’s men will be too strong for the visitors.
He said: “Everton were not short of firepower in Wednesday’s FA Cup win over Tottenham but it will be interesting to see how they shape up in attack if Dominic Calvert-Lewin misses the game with the hamstring injury he suffered against Spurs.
“They should still be too strong for Fulham, though. Scott Parker’s side got another useful point against West Ham last weekend, but their long wait for a league win stands at twelve games and counting.”
Injury woes again
It’s a case of here we go again for the Everton boss, who’s been unlucky with injuries to key squad members this season.
Frustratingly, Calvert-Lewin had just started scoring again after an off patch. After going seven games without scoring, the number nine has struck four times in Everton’s last six games, including three in his last three.
The Englishman is the joint second-highest goalscorer in the top-flight. He’s scored 38.23% of the Toffees goals in the Premier League in 2020/21. It’s a massive blow to be losing him again.
As it stands, he’s not the only key man the Blues are missing. Summer signings James Rodriguez and Allan are both currently sidelined.
Allan hasn’t featured since December 16th in the 2-0 victory away to Leicester. The Brazilian had looked very impressive in the league before his injury, and has been a big miss for Everton.
He, along with James, will hopefully be pushing for team selection soon. Ancelotti will still feel he has enough to get past Fulham.
In other Everton news, Lucas Digne will sign a new contract next week.
