Exclusive: Campbell backs Everton to bounce back after ‘hangover’, predicts City result

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Everton will improve against Manchester City after losing to Fulham but they won’t have enough to stop the rampant league leaders, according to Kevin Campbell.

The Blues fell to a 2-0 defeat against relegation strugglers Fulham this weekend but Campbell believes this was due to a hangover effect following two hours of football against Tottenham in the week.

Campbell insists Everton will improve after their disappointing loss but he doesn’t think his former side have a decent chance of winning against Pep Guardiola’s team.

Everton

“This is the type of game where you think Everton don’t need it. But they do need this game,” Campbell told Goodison news.

“City are playing with a lot of confidence and quality. But we’ve seen Everton match most teams at the top end of the table on their day.

“I think the Fulham game was a bit of a hangover after extra time against Spurs, it was physically and mentally draining.

“You could see that they just didn’t have the zip in their legs and Fulham came in and done a number on them but they’ll be ready to go against City.

“I do think City are going to win the game 3-1, they’re unstoppable at the moment.”

Everton

City are certainly setting the pace at the top of the Premier League and they just tore apart the Spurs team we struggled to dispatch last week.

It’s not impossible that we could get a win and we do have a habit of turning up in these big games.

With the Merseyside derby on the horizon, this week could make or break our season.

Two wins and we are looking at a top four place, two losses and we’ll be back looking at a Europa League spot.

Carlo Ancelotti has to decide which game to target with his squad on the verge of another injury crisis.

We will be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin and we all know how much we struggle without him.

Perhaps we should focus on the game against Liverpool with our city neighbours looking very leaky at the back in recent games.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are ready to offer £13.1million to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot in the summer, according to TuttoJuve.
