View: Why Marcel Brands deserves a new contract with Everton
With Marcel Brands’ contract as Everton’s Director of Football expiring this summer, we believe Everton would be wise to tie him down to a new deal.
However, not everyone is seemingly on board with the Dutchman being handled a new deal, despite the undeniable success that he has brought the Blues in the transfer market.
In the 2018-19 season, the first campaign after Brands became Everton’s Director of Football, the former PSV man made a number of impressive moves to kick start his career on Merseyside.
Highly rated Watford starlet Richarlison joined the club and would quickly prove his worth, becoming the club’s top goalscorer in his debut season at Goodison Park. Meanwhile, Lucas Digne would join from Barcelona for a cut-price fee, and highly coveted winger Bernard would join Everton on a free ahead of other interested clubs.
In his second season, Brands negotiated impressive transfer fees for Andre Gomes and Moise Kean from Barcelona and Juventus respectively, and in his third season, he brought genuine calibre to Goodison Park with Allan and James Rodriguez.
Though the Dutchman has a few blips on his transfer record, Fabian Delph a notable one, Everton’s Director has been able to negotiate a great many deals for the club that previously would have been difficult to fathom.

Taking the business that Brands has been able to bring to Everton into account, it seems difficult to comprehend how someone could express their doubts over his future as the club’s Director of Football.
Nothing is ever guaranteed in football, but until Brands has done enough to warrant significant doubt in his ability, his track record must speak for itself. For signing top talent and elevating Everton’s platform, he absolutely deserves a new deal.
In other Everton news, James Rodriguez is said to be considering a summer exit from Everton, according to Defensa Central.
