Exclusive: Campbell tips King for first Everton start v Man City

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has tipped Josh King to be handed a first Everton start against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The forward joined the Blues from Bournemouth on deadline day but has only made three appearances off the bench for his new side.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to miss the clash against City, Campbell believes that KIng will be given the nod.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I think he might get his first start.

“That opportunity is there for him. He’s been unlucky to miss out so far but obviously, he’s just arrived.

“He’s looked quite lively when he has been on the pitch. So with Calvert-Lewin out, he could definitely be handed a start.

King only has 46 minutes under his belt as an Evertonian but with DCL ruled out of Wednesday’s game, there are no other options for Carlo Ancelotti.

We have seen The Professor send out a side without a striker this season and it worked to great effect in the 2-1 away win at Wolves.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City present a different challenge though and King will have to hit the ground running if he is chosen to start.

Wednesday’s match should have been played weeks ago but City asked for the game to be called off after a COVID outbreak hit their squad.

Since the outbreak, City have gone from strength to strength and look to be running away with the title.

We will have to be at our best to take anything from them at Goodison Park but if anyone can mastermind a win against Guardiola, it’s Ancelotti.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are said to be courting Roma centre-back Gianluca Mancini ahead of the summer transfer window.
