View: Success of Moise Kean away from Goodison is only good news for Everton

When Marcel Brands brought Moise Kean to Everton in the summer of 2019, it initially appeared as though the Dutchman had pulled off his first masterstroke.

According to The Guardian, Juventus had demanded around £35million for their prized starlet, though they would only sanction the sale if a buy-back clause was included in the deal.

However Everton eventually ended up paying an initial £25.1million which could rise to as high as £27.5million, with no buy-back clause included in the agreement.

Kean wasn’t just a financial steal, he also represented a strong step in the right direction for the Blues, who had signed a top class young star with massive potential.

However, after scoring just twice in 29 Premier League games during his debut season on Merseyside, Kean’s time as an Everton player looked like it may be short-lived.

Now on loan at Paris Saint-Germain, the Italy international has scored 16 times in 29 appearances across all competitions, including ten goals in Ligue 1 and three in the Champions League.

Kean’s red hot form in the French capital begs two questions: how did Everton not realise his potential, and why did the club let him go?

In reality, Kean’s impressive performances for PSG can only see Everton reap the rewards, either financially or on the pitch.

Should PSG decide that they want to turn Kean’s loan deal into a permanent one, and it isn’t a stretch to assume they might, then the 20-year old’s performances mean that the Toffees will be able to demand top dollar.

However should manager Mauricio Pochettino decide that he doesn’t want to pursue a permanent switch, Kean could bring his experiences and put them to use at Goodison Park, or Carlo Ancelotti could sell him to the highest bidder.

Everton might appear to have egg on their face as they deploy Josh King against Manchester City on Wednesday while Kean is scoring against Barcelona, but in reality the Toffees hold all of the cards.

It remains to be seen what will come of Kean’s situation next season, but Everton could be in a position to prosper no matter the outcome.
