‘No better chance’ – Exclusive: Campbell backs Everton to end derby hoodoo
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell insists there is no better time for Everton to play Liverpool with the second Merseyside derby of the season just a few days away.
The Reds have only won two of their last 10 Premier League games and they have lost their last three matches at ‘fortress Anfield’.
Campbell believes this is the best chance Everton have to break the decade long hoodoo against their City rivals.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “There is no better chance to beat Liverpool.
“They’re reeling. They’ve had some poor results. They just aren’t themselves, you can see that.
“No matter what happens there are fundamental mistakes being made which you never used to see.
“If ever there was a time to go into a game thinking, ‘we can beat them at their place’, that’s now. I’m going to go 1-0 Everton.”
The first derby of this season proved to be the turning point in Liverpool’s campaign as Jordan Pickford caused an injury to Virgil van Dijk that he still hasn’t recovered from.
Everton deserved a win on the day but they had to make do with a 2-2 draw as points were dropped for the first time this season.
We would draw level with Liverpool in the table if we can pick up a win and we would still have a game in hand.
We have a huge chance to end this winless run in the derby and it would be even better if we could condemn the Reds to another home defeat.
A derby defeat would really turn up the heat on Jurgen Klopp and Everton will be happy to play pantomime villains in the story of Liverpool’s season.
In other Everton news, a number of Everton supporters have criticised Mason Holgate’s performance in the club’s 2-0 loss to Fulham at Goodison Park on Sunday.
