View: Arkadiusz Milik could represent shrewd business for Everton

Signing Marseille forward Arkadiusz Milik could be a shrewd piece of business for Everton if the club decide to shore up interest this summer.

The Liverpool Echo identified Milik as someone who could bolster Carlo Ancelotti’s squad last month, while Everton have been repeatedly linked with a move for the Poland international over the past few months.

Everton are likely to pursue reinforcements in the summer, particularly if they end up qualifying for European football, and strength in depth up front must be seen as a priority.

The Blues have heavily relied on the goals of Dominic Calvert-Lewin this season, with the 23-year old striker having scored 13 times in the Premier League, but he alone won’t be able to carry Everton through domestic and continental competition.

Josh King joined the club as a supporting forward in the winter transfer window but after signing an initial six-month deal there is no guarantee that Ancelotti will desire to keep the Norway international when his deal runs out.

Calciomercato have recently revealed that after joining Marseille in January, Milik will have a release clause in his contract worth just £10.4million once he signs for the French club on a permanent basis.

Milik moved to Marseille on a temporary deal with an obligation to buy in the winter window, so the Poland international will officially become a permanent Marseille player at the end of the season.

Everton will likely need to bring in another forward in the summer, and we think that Milik could be just the man that the Toffees need.

The 26-year old moved to Naples after scoring 21 Eredivisie goals for Ajax in the 2015/16 season, where he would go on to score 48 goals for the club during his time at the San Paolo.

Strong, clinical and possessing excellent technical ability, Milik could be the perfect foil to support and push Calvert-Lewin. Milik would provide another dimension to Everton’s attack, and with the future of Moise Kean unclear, the Pole would be a snip at such a low price.

With such a low fee comes competition though with a number of clubs likely to find themselves in a similar position to Everton, but Ancelotti might be able to use his previous position as Napoli boss to leverage favour within Milik’s camp.

Whether he’d be a success or not at Goodison Park is anyone’s guess, but with a price tag like lowering the risk of such a move considerably, it could be worth taking.
