Doucoure wants Everton to qualify for Champions League

Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has revealed he wants to achieve his Champions League ambition with Everton.

The Frenchman joined the Blues from Watford last summer for around £20million and has been a near-constant fixture in Carlo Ancelotti side this season.

The 28-year old has contributed with two goals and three assists in 23 Premier League appearances this season, missing just one game through suspension.

Talking to Everton TV, Doucoure revealed that playing Champions League football remains one of his personal targets, and he believes he can achieve that with Everton. He said: “It is one of my targets during my football career, I want to play in the Champions League soon.

“The best way is to help Everton quality for the Champions League.

“So of course, it will be huge for me to play in the Champions League with the Everton shirt.”

Lofty ambitions

Whether we can realistically expect Everton to actually qualify for the Champions League in the near future or not, it is essential that we have more players share this healthy attitude.

The Blues’ hopes of continental competition live and die on the talent that they can amass on Merseyside, and not every talented player will be patient enough to stick around while the club fight to reach Europe’s elite stage.

Doucoure’s ambition to play on the biggest stage with Everton indicates that there is a winning mentality building at Goodison Park, and that Carlo Ancelotti has his players believing that they can go far.

We can only hope that this translates to on-field performances, and that it inspires more talented players to get on board with Farhad Moshiri’s project.

The Toffees might not qualify for the Champions League this season, but progression is clearly being made, and that’s what counts in the long run.
