View: Everton’s best January signings over the past decade

Though the January transfer window is notoriously difficult to navigate, Everton have dipped into the winter market a fair few times over the past decade.

Sometimes it has worked well in the Toffees’ favour, while on other occasions the recruits have failed to contribute much to the clubs’ cause.

Carlo Ancelotti brought Josh King to Goodison Park in the winter window this season, with the former Bournemouth man penning a short-term deal on February 1.

But when has the winter market worked for Everton? We at Goodison News have looked at some of the better signings made in that window over the past decade.

Nikica Jelavic

Though the Croatian would quickly lose his way as an Everton player, his initial impact on Merseyside hasn’t quite been bested since he signed in January 2012.

Making the move from Rangers for £5.5million, Jelavic scored nine times in 13 Premier League appearances before the end of the season. He would go on to score just seven goals in his next 46 league games, never equalling the form he displayed in that initial six-month spell.

Steven Pienaar

Also signing in January 2012, Pienaar moved to Goodison Park for the third (out of four) time and make a huge impact before the end of the season.

Returning on loan from Tottenham just 12 months after leaving Everton on a permanent deal, the South African quickly racked up four goals and seven assists in 14 Premier League appearances.

The versatile winger would sign permanently the following summer, playing a further 71 times for the Blues before leaving them for Sunderland in 2016.

John Stones

Joining for just £3million from Barnsley in January 2013, Stones wasn’t a player who made an immediate impact, but he quickly became a crucial player for the Blues.

Before trading Goodison Park for the Etihad, Stones made 77 Premier League appearances for the Toffees, after which the club made a huge profit by selling him to City for £47.5million.

In other Everton news, Abdoulaye Doucoure believes he can achieve his Champions League ambitions with the Blues.
