Report: Everton hope double signing will convince James Rodriguez to stay
Everton are desperate to sign Real Madrid duo Lucas Vasquez and Isco in order to convince James Rodriguez to stay at the club, according to Defensa Central.
Spanish outlet Defensa Central reported last month that the Colombian attacking midfielder, who only joined the Blues last summer, had become disillusioned with living in England.
Carlo Ancelotti quickly shot down the claim in a press conference while James himself later played down speculation when speaking to Marca Claro, insisting that he is happy at Goodison Park.
However Defensa Central still believe that James is unsettled, and they claim that Carlo Ancelotti views Real Madrid duo Vasquez and Isco as enough to convince him to remain at Goodison Park.
James is said to be uncertain over whether he wants to remain in Liverpool next season, with the former World Cup Golden Boot winner keen on living in Spain again.
Seems like a stretch
Whether James is or isn’t beginning to feel disillusioned by Premier League football, it doesn’t seem feasible that Ancelotti would sanction a double signing purely in order to keep one ageing playmaker on Merseyside.
Isco and Vasquez have both been repeatedly linked with transfers to Everton over the past 12 months, though we suspect that is due to Ancelotti’s previous connection with Los Merengues.
Everton are the cusp of returning to European football this summer and will no doubt be targeting the right players to strengthen their squad ahead of a huge upcoming campaign.
While Ancelotti may well want either Vasquez, Isco or both at Goodison Park this summer, it doesn’t seem likely that either transfer would hinge on the ulterior motive of convincing James to stay.
We hope James does decide to remain an Everton player for the foreseeable future, but if he was to seek an exit, and that also doesn’t seem likely going by his own comments, then he should be allowed to do so.
In other Everton news, Ancelotti claims that Everton’s ‘really high’ team spirit could not be improved upon.
