Exclusive: Campbell wants Everton to start King and DCL in 4-4-2 system

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has discussed Josh King’s Everton future with the striker only making seven substitute appearances since he joined the club in January.

King is yet to start for Everton in the Premier League since he joined the club despite an injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Campbell would love to see a new system that could utilise both DCL and King because he doesn’t fancy King’s chances of starting in the current system.

“Obviously Calvert-Lewin has been handed his first start for a while so he’s going to want to play,” Campbell told Goodison News.

“It depends on what Ancelotti wants to do. It would be interesting to see a 4-4-2 with Calvert-Lewin and King then Richarlison on the left.

“That would be a solid 4-4-2. Two goal-getters up top and a threat out wide, I’d like to see that.”

Everton

King has 93 Premier League minutes to his name for us and he doesn’t have any goal involvements to show for it.

Obviously, this isn’t ideal but we all know his signing was a late and desperate one and he hasn’t quite been needed as much as we thought he would.

Instead, Richarlison has started as a striker and he has impressed by getting four goals in four league games before blanking away at Chelsea.

We’d love to see more of King but the simple fact is that if Calvert-Lewin is fit, he starts.

King will know he has to work for his chances at Everton and he hasn’t shown us anything to suggest he’s worth starting so far.

We hope that changes in the future.
