Exclusive: Kevin Campbell claims King would want regular game-time to join Fenerbahce

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell insists Josh King will only leave Everton if he is guaranteed to get the game time he isn’t currently getting at Goodison Park.

King has struggled for starts since his January move to Everton and when he has been called on he has been pushed out wide by Carlo Ancelotti.

Following a report from Turkish outlet Sabah that claims King is a target for Fenerbahce, Campbell claimed he will only go if he’s going to be playing regularly.

“Josh King is a good player but it’s difficult for him to start now Calvert-Lewin has been so prolific,” Campbell exclusively told Goodison News

“Richarlison as well, he’s been a match-winner. It’s difficult to see him starting unless he plays out wide. But he’s not a wide player, he’s a striker.

“His game time has been limited and Fenerbahce is something that might interest him but he’ll only go if he’s going to be playing.”

King only has 117 Premier League minutes as an Everton player under his belt across eight substitute appearances.

Everton

Somewhat staggeringly, King has an expected goals rate at Everton of 0xg as he is yet to have a shot on target since his summer move, according to Wyscout.

What’s even more concerning is that he has only attempted one cross in his eight league appearances and it failed to find anyone in blue.

We appreciate that his game time has been limited but his cameos have been far from encouraging and it is no surprise he is yet to start in the league.

If King was to leave Goodison at the end of the season it wouldn’t be a huge loss and it looks like we were wise to only agree to a six-month deal for the former Bournemouth man.

We didn’t think King could be any worse than Cenk Tosun but at least Tosun managed to grab a goal for us this season.
