View: Everton could find new position for Moise Kean next season
Back in January 2020, Marcel Brands revealed at an AGM that Everton would target a right-sided midfielder in the summer transfer window.
Six months later the Toffees failed to sign a natural winger, instead bringing in a centre-back, two midfielders and a playmaker in the form of James Rodriguez.
During his time as an Everton player, James has often lined up on the right side of the field with the freedom to drift into the centre when required. However, he isn’t the natural right-sided player that Brands was hoping for.
Alex Iwobi, Richarlison and Bernard are currently Everton’s only natural senior wide-men, and with the former often failing to convince and the latter seemingly on borrowed time, that leaves just Richarlison as someone with a certain future at Goodison Park.
Eurosport had credited Everton with interest in Stuttgart sensation Silas Wamangituka earlier this month, with the 21-year old destined to move this summer. A transfer for him will now have to be put on hold following a recent ACL injury.
However, Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has presented information that could save Everton big money on a right-sided player ahead of next season.
Pochettino recently described loanee Moise Kean as a “versatile player” who can play equally effectively “on the left, on the right, or through the middle”, so reports The Liverpool Echo.
Kean has been in electrifying form since switching Goodison Park for the Parc des Princes on a temporary deal, scoring 17 times in 31 games across all competitions for PSG [Transfermarkt].
Having initially struggled to impress on Merseyside, the Italy international has developed tenfold in France, which could see Everton now prosper in a win-win scenario.
Should PSG want to sign him permanently, or should any other club register an interest, the 21-year old’s form and age will allow Everton to demand a large sum to sanction a sale.
However if the Blues decide to keep him then he should find a place in Everton’s squad comfortably, particularly if he can retain his confidence in front of goal.
While still perhaps an unorthodox option at wide, if Kean has shown capability in that position then he could become an asset to Everton.
The Blues want to find a capable player who can man their right-side in a three-prong attack alongside Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
If Kean returns to Everton and doesn’t seek an exit, it could be worth exploring his ability to perform in that role, which would allow the club to focus transfer funds elsewhere.
In other Everton news, France manager Didier Deschamps believes Lucas Digne often gets overlooked because he plays for Everton.
