Kevin Campbell hails impact of a fit Coleman at Everton – Exclusive

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell insists Seamus Coleman’s Everton return was a huge positive despite the Blues’ loss to Manchester City.

Coleman made a return from injury as the Toffees exited the FA Cup with a 2-0 loss to Man City last week.

Despite the loss, Campbell was encouraged by Coleman’s return and stressed how much better Everton are when he is available.

“I think he’s such an important player for Everton,” Campbell exclusively told Goodison News.

“Everton just aren’t the same team when he’s not there. He’s struggled with his injuries but whenever he does play you can see the difference he makes.

“He gave City the best he could’ve down that right-hand side. City just had that extra bit of quality unfortunately.

“Coleman had a very good game though and that’s always a plus.”

Coleman is still our best right-back and Ben Godfrey recently proved that he is not good enough to regularly cover for him.

Unfortunately, Coleman is one of the most injury-prone players we’ve ever had at the club and we simply can’t rely on him being fit for a whole season.

His return against City highlighted how much we miss not just Coleman but having a capable right back in the team.

The poor cover in this position has cost us games this season, most recently against Burnley when Dwight McNeil had a field day against Godfrey.

It was great to see Coleman back but you can’t help but feel he’ll only get a few games under his belt before being unavailable again.

Hopefully, he uses the international break to get into the best shape possible ahead of an important end to the season.
