View: Aaron Ramsey an unconvincing target as Everton transfer report emerges

Crystal Palace have become the latest club to be credited with an interest in Juventus midfielder and reported Everton target Aaron Ramsey, according to the Italian media.

CalcioMercato claim that West Ham and the Eagles are both keen on bringing the former Arsenal man back to the Premier League this summer, while Juventus are said to be considering letting him go.

TuttoJuve meanwhile reported last week that the defending Serie A champions are keen on reuniting with striker Moise Kean in the summer and that they’d be prepared to offer Ramsey to Everton in a player-plus-cash exchange.

In his second season since switching London for Turin, Ramsey has started just 12 times in Serie A for Juventus, having suffered a series of injury issues throughout the campaign [Transfermarkt].

Given his injury record and the fact that he is now 30-years old, Everton could find themselves better off if they allow Crystal Palace to steal a march in the pursuit of the Welshman.

Everton already have an ageing midfield with Abdoulaye Doucoure [28], James Rodriguez [29], Allan [30], Fabian Delph [31] and Gylfi Sigurdsson [31] all on the senior side, and Ramsey would only further add to the club’s long-term issues.

As the Toffees begin to phase out their older contingent they need to have younger options waiting to come through in order to ease the transition and prevent a drastic summer of change.

If Carlo Ancelotti wishes to sign an additional midfielder this summer, and by all accounts the Adrien Rabiot interest makes it seem as though he does [GFFN], the Italian coach needs to keep focus on how he wants Everton’s squad to shape up in the long-term.

Ramsey’s limited game time in Italy indicates that though he still remains a talented player he no longer meets the required level to cement a regular playing spot, and coupled with his age and his injury record he doesn’t present himself as overly enticing.

With CalcioMercato also reporting Ramsey to be on extremely high wages in Italy, Everton would definitely be better off in the long-run if they allowed Crystal Palace to press ahead with their interest unimpeded.
