View: Everton must move early to clinch Aarons signing
Everton must move quickly in their pursuit of Norwich star Max Aarons this summer as interest in the defender begins to heat up.
Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Manchester United have all been credited with interest in the 21-year old full-back in the past, who has also caught the eye of Everton, so report The Athletic.
Now though, another European heavyweight could be set to join the fray, with the Sunday Telegraph’s Mike McGrath (via Eastern Daily Press) reporting that Roma could revive their prior interest.
Everton are determined to find a long-term successor to Seamus Coleman this summer, with neither Jonjoe Kenny nor Mason Holgate having convinced in the Irishman’s stead.
Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has emerged as another option at right-back, however, Aarons appears to be the more promising option for Everton to explore.
Dalot has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot during his loan spell with AC Milan this season, managing just eight Serie A appearances in the starting line-up for the Rossoneri [WhoScored].
Aarons though, who according to contract experts Salary Sport is on a £17,000-a-week contract at Carrow Road, has been an integral player for Norwich this season having played every minute of the club’s Championship promotion campaign [Transfermarkt].
Norwich majority shareholder Delia Smith admitted at a recent FT Business of Football summit that Aarons would become one of “the top footballers” while also conceding that it “won’t be at Norwich”, and Everton should capitalise on his summer availability.
Aarons’ consistent form has understandably seen him attract plenty of transfer attention, and that is why Everton must move swiftly this summer.
Carlo Ancelotti is keen to find a long-term solution at right-back and all signs point to Aarons being the ideal candidate, while the Toffees’ recent capture of Ben Godfrey opened negotiation links with the Canaries.
The Blues would then be best served making their move early this summer before any other parties have the chance to make their own offers and threaten Everton’s transfer plans.
