Kevin Campbell backs Calvert-Lewin to find best form after England goals

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell insists Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goals on England duty will only serve him well as he returns to Everton.

The Blues face a hectic end to the season with a place in Europe just a few wins away and that would top off an excellent first full season for Carlo Ancelotti.

Calvert-Lewin has been lacking goals of late after starting the season in electric form but Campbell claims his brace for England against San Marino could change our striker’s fortunes.

“It works that way sometimes, for strikers,” Campbell exclusively told Goodison News.

“You start the season well and in the end, you can’t buy a goal. A goal for England always puts a spring in your step.

“Obviously, the team need Calvert-Lewin to get back on the goalscoring charts against Palace because it’s going to be a rush to the finish now.”

A fully fit and firing Calvert-Lewin will be a valuable commodity for the Blues as the Premier League season draws to a close.

We have perhaps not seen the best of DCL for months now.

He scored in our last outing as we lost to Burnley but before that, his last run of two goals in two games came at the very start of February.

His record is three in his last 14 now which is far from what we were seeing at the start of the season.

If DCL had kept up his goalscoring rate we’d be comfortably in the Champions League places but we can’t solely blame him for our slight slide down the table.

Now is the perfect time for Calvert-Lewin to find his best form and those England goals can only have helped his confidence.

A goal or two against Crystal Palace on Monday would be much appreciated and it would be a huge statement ahead of a hectic run-in.

In other Everton news, Palace could welcome back three key players for Monday’s clash.
