Everton exclusive: Campbell shares what Ancelotti may do to manage Doucoure’s absence
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell claims Carlo Ancelotti will take it game by game as he manages Everton without the injured Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Ancelotti has confirmed that Doucoure will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury and this leaves a massive hole in our midfield.
Campbell insists there is no simple solution to replacing Doucoure as he does so much more than his own job.
“The best solution is to get Doucoure back!” Campbell exclusively told Goodison News when asked what Ancelotti would do with a key man sidelined.
“This is the thing when you lose a player of Doucoure’s quality. He does so much more than his own job, he helps everybody else.
“You can put other players in there and they might have some traits that they are good at while others have traits they’re not good at.
“Carlo Ancelotti has to utilise that position game by game because every team they play, you can find a different solution for.”
The good news for Ancelotti is that Allan is back to full fitness with the Brazilian likely to pick up a lot of Doucoure’s work.
Tom Davies is the likely candidate to replace Doucoure in the team and while he is having a good season, he isn’t the physical presence that Doucoure is and there’s not a lot Davies can do about that.
As Campbell suggested, there may be a different way for Everton to manage without the former Watford man depending on who the opposition is.
There is no doubt will we miss him most in tricky fixtures against Man City and West Ham but we have a pretty decent run in.
We should be able to manage and Ancelotti has had a few weeks to mull over his options, it’ll be interesting to see what he does against Palace on Monday.
In other Everton news, Everton reportedly make move for 20y/o forward available for £8.5m.
