Exclusive: Kevin Campbell claims Sigurdsson should replace Doucoure for Everton v Palace

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell insists Gylfi Sigurdsson should replace the injured Abdoulaye Doucoure when Everton line up against Crystal Palace on Monday.

Doucoure is out for the season and Carlo Ancelotti may have to rotate his midfield or even completely change his system to accommodate the loss of the former Watford man.

The two prime candidates to replace Doucoure are Sigurdsson and Tom Davies though Campbell claims Ancelotti should opt for the Iceland international.

“You could say that Sigurdsson and Davies should both start,” Campbell exclusively told Goodison News.

“When you need to score goals and you need to be aggressive you need to have a threat.

“I think against Palace you go for Siggy who can score, create and play some good passes to the attackers.”

Sigurdsson isn’t having a bad season and has played a lot more football than we all expected after it looked like he may leave us in the summer.

Sigurdsson has worn the captain’s armband on numerous occasions this season and he has come big when needed.

Away at Wolves he was unplayable, at home against Chelsea his penalty won us the game and away at Sheffield United he popped up with another vital goal.

The Iceland international has four goals and four assists in 26 Premier League appearances this season which is a decent return for a player who has only started 16 of those games.

Sigurdsson’s long-term future is unknown but he is with us until the end of this season and he could play a big role with Doucoure out.

Campbell is right, we need goals if we are to finish in a European spot and Sigurdsson is a more creative player than Davies.

Hopefully, Sigurdsson can show us his best qualities if he is given the nod on Monday.

In other Everton news, Everton reportedly make move for 20y/o forward available for £8.5m.
