Onyango suffers serious injury playing for Everton U18s, will undergo surgery

Everton have confirmed Tyler Onyango will have to undergo surgery after suffering “a significant ankle fracture and ligament injury” while playing for the Under-18s on Saturday.

Onyango, 18, captained the young Blues side to an FA Youth Cup victory over Manchester City but was forced off in the 73rd minute with his injury.

Everton have now announced on their official website that the midfielder “will undergo a procedure in London in the coming days to repair the ligament damage before beginning the rehabilitation process”.

Massive blow

What a shame this is for Onyango.

The 18-year-old is clearly someone who Carlo Ancelotti rates highly with the teenager earning his senior debut for the Blues in the FA Cup in January.

Onyango has also been a regular feature on Ancelotti’s bench in the Premier League and the FA Cup with him being an unused substitute eight times in the league and twice in the FA Cup, including the defeat to Manchester City in the final game before the international break.

Onyango could have made a Premier League debut this term but it seems as though the youngster’s season is over already due to what sounds like a horrific injury.

We really hope his surgery goes well in London and it isn’t too long before the Luton-born ace can return to full fitness for the Blues.

He only turned 18 last month so he’s young and should recover quickly but let’s hope it doesn’t impede his development at all.
