View: Everton must consider Winks as bargain summer solution

Carlo Ancelotti has indicated that Everton could look to make “two or three” signings in the summer as he looks to bolster his squad.

The Athletic believe the Toffees will target a right-back, while Marcel Brands has previously spoken of Everton’s need for a right-sided winger.

Aside from those two positions, the Blues are also lacking depth up front and in midfield, while a new goalkeeper could be necessary if Robin Olsen doesn’t remain on Merseyside.

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has been suggested as one possible midfield target for Everton this summer, with Mirror Sport explaining that Spurs are finally willing to listen to offers.

The Mirror go on to report that Winks will cost between £15million and £20million this summer, and because of this he could be the perfect recruit for Ancelotti’s Everton.

Should Fabian Delph leave Goodison Park in the summer, with the England international’s future unclear, Winks would be a cost-effective replacement.

Previously described as ‘amazing’ by former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, Winks has fallen out of favour in London this season, with summer signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg preferred in midfield.

Despite this though he has shown himself to be a skilful operator in midfield when called upon by Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese coach previously praising his movement and positional awareness.

If Ancelotti only wishes to sign two or three marquee signings in the summer, bringing someone like Winks to Goodison Park could still allow him to do that, with the midfielder’s price tag being particularly low.

Having fallen down the pecking order with Spurs, Winks could relish the opportunity to play more frequently with Everton, and at just 25-years old he would be a long-term investment.

In other Everton news, the Blues could be willing to take a significant loss on £135k-per-week ace as summer exit looms.
