Kevin Campbell reacts to Andre Gomes injury blow in Everton draw v Palace – Exclusive

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes Andre Gomes’ latest injury worry will be a “big blow” for Everton this season in the Premier League.

The Portuguese international was forced off in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday evening, with Ancelotti confirming it was a hamstring problem.

Campbell admitted that injuries were inevitable, but insisted that Gomes has been a big part of the Blues success at Goodison Park this season.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “We’re at that time of the season where it has been a long, hard season.

“You’re going to pick up some injuries here and there, I don’t know what the issue is or how long it is going to be, we’ll hear that in the next few days.

“Whether Gomes plays or he doesn’t play, he has been a big part of what Everton have done this season so it’s a big blow.”

Replacements?

Jean-Phillipe Gbamin returned against Palace and came off the bench in the draw, looking as sloppy as expected on and off the ball.

The Ivorian could now be pushed into a starting position against Brighton on Monday, and that could depend on how Allan comes through the next week.

Ancelotti has numerous problems in midfield, and with the Blues pushing for European qualification this season, it isn’t ideal.

Hopefully, Gomes’ scans come back with positive news.
