Holgate praises ‘unbelievable’ Everton coach Davide Ancelotti
Mason Holgate has sung the praises of “unbelievable” Everton assistant coach Davide Ancelotti, in the Mail Online.
Davide, son of Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti, joined the Toffees when his father did in December 2019 following Marco Silva’s dismissal.
Tasked with working alongside Carlo’s other assistant Duncan Ferguson, Davide has emerged as an important member of Everton’s coaching set-up.
Former Liverpool and Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso spoke fondly of the Italian last month [Liverpool Echo], and now Holgate has weighed in with praise of his own.
As reported by Mail Online, Holgate said: “Davide is also a very good coach, unbelievable to be honest, one of the best I have worked with.
“He is similar to his dad, calm and easy to speak to. You can speak to him about many things, not just football.
“He is a really good coach and owns what he is talking about. All the staff the gaffer brought in are the same, easy-going, nice people who you can speak to.”
Winning formula for Everton?
It isn’t often that we get to hear about Everton’s assistant coaches and how influential they are within the playing squad, so it’s definitely positive to hear Holgate sing Davide’s praises.
Duncan Ferguson has received credit over the previous year for some of the noticeable improvements we’ve seen in Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s game, with the Everton forward now much more effective physically and in the air.
Davide on the other hand hasn’t been given all that much credit, despite taking a very active role in training alongside his Scottish colleague.
Described as ‘respected’ and always ‘prepared’ by Alonso, Davide has obviously learned a thing or two from Carlo over the years they’ve worked together, and it would be safe to assume that they work well together too.
However praise only gets you so far in football without results, with the long-term legacy of both Carlo and Davide Ancelotti likely to be defined by whether or not they can finally deliver silverware at Goodison Park.
Fingers crossed that Everton have finally found the winning formula.
