Alan Brazil hits out at Everton ‘sulker’ Richarlison

Alan Brazil has questioned whether ‘sulky’ Richarlison will seek an Everton exit this summer after claiming the Brazilian is under-performing.

Only Dominic Calvert-Lewin (19) has scored more goals for the Blues than Richarlison (12) this season, though only half (6) of his efforts have come in the Premier League. [BBC]

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast [07:40, 16/04/21] Brazil was critical of Richarlison and what he perceives as petulance on the pitch.

“Richarlison’s a funny one, at the start of the season I thought ‘no I like this guy’ but he just looks like a bit of a sulker to me now and he’s just gone off the boil,” he said.

“He’s still getting chances, still getting in there and taking the chances but I thought he was going to be a clinical finisher who was going to get 20 goals.

“He’s beginning to worry me a little bit now, is he going to be there next season?”

Brazil might call him sulky but we think that’s a rather lazy piece of analysis of a guy who is just desperate to win.

We’ve seen some over-exuberance at times this season which has nearly cost us, such as his tackle on Thiago Alcantara in October’s Merseyside Derby which resulted in a red card and us hanging on at the death.

He looks hacked off at the best of times but that’s because he wants to score, assist and ultimately win football matches.

That is his sole focus and we would wholeheartedly disagree that his body language lends itself to the suggestion that he wants out in the summer.

We assume that is what Brazil is referring to as we surely would not be looking to give up one our prized assets that is crucial to our future hopes.

Often he has been left isolated up front on his own, particularly when forced to operate in a central striker role to cover for Calvert-Lewin, and we must do more and show greater attacking urgency to support him.

We have no worries regarding his summer plans, Richarlison will be sticking around for a while longer yet.
