Kevin Campbell praises Everton for Super League statement
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has praised for Everton for taking a stance against the European Super League when they released their statement on Tuesday.
Everton stood defiant against the plans of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’, slamming their “preposterous arrogance” in a lengthy statement on their website.
Less than a day later, all six of England’s Super League contingents withdrew from the controversial competition, leaving just the Spanish and Italian clubs to make their own minds up.
When asked about the strength of the Toffees’ statement, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said: “It was a welcomed stance from the hierarchy at Everton. It was brilliant, it was a really, really brilliant statement to come from the football club, and rightly so.
“Every club has to protect themselves. Everton all of a sudden have got Bramley-Moore Dock to build a new stadium, and they don’t want anybody to jeopardise them moving forward.
“It was looking like a mess, and they came out and spoke very strongly and proudly.
Everton were one of the first clubs to come out and outright criticise the European Super League movement, and for that reason alone they should be praised.
Farhad Moshiri and the Board didn’t pull any punches with their statement. They hit hard and they meant what they said, and it perfectly reflects why so many Everton supporters love and trust their club.
The Blues are all about community and family, and that’s exactly what the ESL opposed. We’re glad to see the club put their thoughts across in a direct and succinct way.
