View: Three things we learned from Everton in win v Arsenal
Everton ended a five-game winless run in the Premier League on Friday while also finally beating Arsenal at the Emirates for the first time.
Despite Arsenal having been awarded a controversial penalty early into the second-half, which was subsequently ruled out for being offside, both clubs were evenly matched throughout the fixture.
Neither side was able to carve out a clear-cut chance over the course of the 90 minutes, with Everton ultimately scoring solely due to a calamitous error made by Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
At Goodison News we have picked out three things we learned from the away victory..
Turn around
Jordan Pickford has completely flipped the script on his Everton career this season, consistently turning in impressive performances.
The England international made a number of crucial saves against the Gunners and he’s proving to be a real defensive asset for the Blues.
Fortune favours the brave
Though Everton needed an own goal from Leno in order to secure the win at the Emirates, the goal came about as Richarlison took on Granit Xhaka at left-back and shot across goal.
The Brazilian’s shot was horrifically off-target but he created his own fortune by taking on his man and creating an opportunity, something Richarlison’s game usually lacks.
Must sell in the summer
Fabian Delph came off the bench against Arsenal for just his sixth Premier League appearance of the season, the first since early December, and he didn’t make a case for his long-term future.
The former Manchester City man looked sloppy in possession, often misplacing passes or unintentionally slicing the ball behind him, and he was booked within minutes of entering the fray.
For goodness’ sake, he had the wrong socks on too…
