Alan Shearer names Seamus Coleman in his Premier League TOTW

Alan Shearer named Seamus Coleman in his Premier League team of the week and he applauded the Everton right-back’s contribution in attack and defence.

The Toffees kept a clean sheet at The Emirates and grabbed a rather fortunate three points after Bernd Leno allowed a low Richarlison cross to sneak through his legs.

But Coleman was key to nullifying the threat of Nicolas Pepe and supported Richarlison down the right flank – and he impressed Shearer in doing so.

Everton may have been fortunate to grab all three points on Friday but our defensive organisation meant we always had a chance of winning.

Coleman was central to that defensive structure too, and Shearer is right to praise the job he did on Pepe.

The Arsenal winger is often a danger and the Gunners looked to him for inspiration in the absence of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But Coleman ensured his influence was limited, and Mikel Arteta was left with no choice but to substitute the Ivorian with 20 minutes left to play.

Coleman’s two successful dribbles and three long balls completed [SofaScore] meant he posed an attacking threat too.

He frequently broke into the attacking final third on the overlap and with a better final delivery we could have scored earlier than we did.

Granit Xhaka could not live with Coleman and Richarlison on the right flank and it was good to see the pair work so well together.
