Everton boosted as Benfica want to sell winger Rafa Silva
Everton have received a transfer boost as Benfica are open to selling winger Rafa Silva, according to Record.
The Portuguese outlet claims the 27-year-old has interested Everton, Leicester and Newcastle, suggesting Rafa has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League.
And if the Toffees bid around €50million [£43.4million], they could make that dream a reality, with the COVID-19 pandemic potentially slashing their initial value of £69.5million.
Record suggest that price could be negotiated due to the effects of the pandemic, so Marcel Brands may not have to spend such a big figure.
Tricky winger
Adding to our attacking options this summer is essential and Rafa could be a good addition, but the potential fee we would have to pay is a little off-putting.
He is almost 28 and has never played outside his native Portugal, so could take a while to adjust to the Premier League.
However, he does have some positive attributes and his experience playing in both the Champions League and Europa League would benefit us.
In particular, he possesses electric pace and that would offer us a different dynamic on the right flank.
In 2018/19, Rafa recorded the fifth-fastest speed in the Champions League, clocking at an astonishing 33.5km/h, per talkSPORT via Squawka, just 0.3 shy of Gareth Bale and 0.9 off Leroy Sane.
Too often Everton have been slow and cumbersome in their build-up play, especially at home, and Rafa would be the remedy to that problem.
Therefore, we would not oppose bringing him in, and we just hope Brands can negotiate a good deal for the club.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are now frontrunners for a coveted midfield ace who will ‘go very far’.
