Allan admits desire to see his Everton contract extended
Everton midfielder Allan has expressed a desire to extend his contract with the club, despite still having just over two-years remaining on his current deal.
The Brazil international signed for the Blues from Napoli in the summer for around £20million, moving to Goodison Park on a three-year contract.
Despite only making 18 appearances in the Premier League due to a small handful of injury issues, Allan has quickly established himself as a vital player under Carlo Ancelotti.
Though the 30-year old midfielder’s contract is not set to expire until 2023, Allan has already indicated that he would like to prolong his stay on Merseyside.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Allan said: “My thoughts are to remain at Everton for as long as possible. It feels good, I feel at home here.
“When you feel good and motivated to do your best on the pitch, there’s no reason you would think about moving.
“It’s very early to have this conversation, I know, but I’m really happy here and hope to stay for many years and leave my mark in the hearts of the fans and at the club.
“I am really pleased with the way I was welcomed and how the supporters received me. I still haven’t had that feeling of the fans in a full Goodison Park but I’ve received a lot of messages welcoming me and congratulating me on my first season in an Everton shirt.
“I hope to repay them on the pitch, through good performances, and to leave an important legacy at the club.”
Positive signs
Everton were always likely to welcome someone special to the club when they signed Allan, with the midfielder having been one of Napoli’s star players over the past few seasons.
Described as a “fantastic player” with “energy and quality in midfield” by Carlo Ancelotti shortly after signing for Everton, Allan has come closest to filling the hole left by Idrissa Gueye’s departure a few years ago.
The Brazilian brings composure and determination to Everton’s defensive midfield structure, while he has also shown that when in possession of the ball he can prove impactful too.
Allan will be 32-years old when his current contract expires, so in regards to extending that deal it all depends on how he continues to play and if he can remain fit, but at the very least it proves that Goodison Park is the place to be.
Attracting top tier talent to Merseyside is one hurdle that Everton needed to cross, but keeping them happy and making them want to remain with the club is a whole new challenge entirely.
Thankfully Allan’s words imply that the club have managed to make him feel at home, and long may that continue.
